It’s Great to Be a Florida Gator

Our beloved Gators played hard and took down the Arkansas Razorbacks for their first SEC Championship in 6 years. This convincing win propelled them to beat Michigan on Sunday in the only game that mattered. The Gators were picked to play No. 1 Ohio State for college football’s national championship, ending any chance for the Wolverines to get the rematch they so desired and thought they deserved
We only got in by a whisker, just a hundredth of a point in the Bowl Championship Series standings. The Gators had a BCS average of .944, and the Wolverines were just behind at .934. The teams were tied in the computer ratings, but Florida had a 38-point lead in the Harris poll and a 26-point advantage in the coaches’ poll.
All these factors were sure to set off renewed calls to scrap the BCS and go to a playoff. Count Florida coach Urban Meyer as supporter of that plan. “We’re beyond the fact of do we need a playoff,” he said. “It’s now, can we get one.”
I personally like the BCS ranking system, I think it has gotten better year after year, but I still believe that the only way that everyone would be happy is to have some type of a playoff: I think a Sweet 16 would be out of the question, but an Elite Eight, or Final Four would settle some arguments. In that scenario, #2 Florida and #3 Michigan would meet on the field to play the winner of the #1 Ohio State vs. #4 LSU match-up. But then I guess you could argue that Michigan has an unfair advantage in having a shorter season, giving them 3 weeks rest.
In the end, I guess no solution is perfect. But I agree with Meyer who said, “If you want a true national championship, the only way to do it is on the field.” The Gators will meet the Buckeyes on that field, Jan. 8th in Glendale, Ariz. Ohio State is a monster of team and it will be difficult to win, but if anyone can pull it off, we can! Go Gators!

Nice blog - anyone who loves Jesus and the Gators has to be doing something right.
Michigan should be out because they lost the last game of the season to OSU. What does a rematch prove? OSU over UM proves the BCS was wrong and the Gators should have been there. UM over OSU proves nothing - is a 1-1 split in two back-to-back games reason to give either team an outright championship? Plus, UM didn’t win their conference. If they aren’t the top team in the Big Ten, how can they be the top team in the country?
Plus, Jesus loves the Gators. It’s obvious.
Go gators!

I allowed this last comment from Neil to show everyone how accepting I am of other peoples views, no matter how verbose or succinct their arguments are.
