Imago Dei

I am very excited about a new Southern Seminary Student Arts Organization that I have begun called Imago Dei. We get our name from our belief that as people created in the image of a creative God our creativity is not something that should be suppressed by our faith, but just the opposite, should be ignited by it. We were told in Genesis to go and build a God glorifying culture and a defining area of culture is in the area of the arts. We Christians must not only respond to art that is produced by non-Christians, but must get involved in the creation of art if we have a real desire to shape and influence our culture.

We meet every month on the last Friday at 7pm. This month, Dr. Steve Halla, our faculty sponsor and head of the Center for Theology and the Arts will be speaking on the Nature and Value of Abstract Art. I hope if you are a student you will join us this Friday at 7pm in Honeycutt 222, you won’t want to miss it.
Next month, we are honored to have Timothy Paul Jones coming to speak on Beauty, Glory, and Awe in Star Wars. I hope you will keep your eyes and ears open for more announcements regarding this organization in the future.

Not a big fan of abstract art. As a matter of fact, I think it’s downright ridiculous. But maybe I’m not smart enough to “get it”. It should be an interesting conversation. I’d be interested in hearing about how it went.
It’s great to hear of an organization like this at Southern.
If any of you are songwriters or are interested in the songwriting process, you should come to one of our (Sojourn’s) free songwriting seminars. The next one is Saturday, April 26 at 3 pm.
