Best Bet: Sarah Marshall Gets Expelled

Well after two weeks of lackluster “Best Bets” I feel like there is actually something to look forward to this weekend. Two weeks ago I hoped that Leatherheads would be a touchdown but it looks like the filmmakers threw an incomplete pass and the romantic comedy turned out to be neither very romantic nor comedic. And last weeks prediction of Smart People, though I haven’t seen it yet, is getting far worse reviews than I had hoped. One going so far as to suggest that they change the title, “because these people just aren’t smart enough.”

This weekend we are fortunate enough to have two openings that will hopefully bring in some good news. One that I have already mentioned twice is the Intelligent Design documentary, Expelled, by Ben Stein. I hope you will give it a chance and see it in theaters. Some of the sequences are breathtakingly illustrated, and in the movie business, you generally win or lose on opening weekend. It’s controversial, and exceedingly challenging. Check it out.

The second film is for my readers with stronger constitutions. It is not for those who are easily offended or the faint of heart. Its viral advertising has been off the charts and it promises to be a riot. The latest from the comedic genius of Judd Apatow, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. For those of you who would rather abstain I’ll put the synopsis and trailer after the jump.
