As you know, we are going to see Casting Crowns in Tallahassee on Friday, October 17th. Mark Hall, the lead singer of Casting Crowns, graduated from The Baptist College of Florida, the same little college in north Florida that Teresa and I graduated from. So I feel like I have a connection to Mark Hall. [...]
For many of you this may be the first post you read here at EngagingCulture.com. I have been very honored and privileged to be called to minister as the youth pastor here in the First Baptist Church of Williston Florida. This is my home. And I look forward to many years of fruitful ministry here. [...]
Hey everybody, I’m on a two week hiatus from blogging, but I had to come back on to say a few words about George Carlin. It is eerie that he is gone, I was just talking about him with my crew at UPS on Friday night. Most of my crew is filled with first or [...]
Well, Barack Obama has officially won the democratic nomination for President. With last night’s win over his formidable opponent, enough delegates finally shifted his way and gave him the security he knew he was going to have all along. How is he so confident, how does he seem to know that America will support [...]
I try to keep this site clean and family friendly. To me, that means avoiding profanity and sexual content, and trying to keep violence to a minimum. I do this as a service for my readers, knowing that many of them object to such content, or are offended by it. However, personally I don’t mind [...]
I know that I’m a few days late posting this, but I wanted to go back and watch some of his movies to better appreciate him as a greatly accomplished Oscar-winning director, producer, and actor. While I love Tootsie and thoroughly enjoyed last year’s Michael Clayton. I believe I will best remember Sydney Pollack for [...]
I updated the gallery to include our recent pictures from the trip to the zoo, but I also found a bunch of other pictures I never uploaded. Check them out by clicking on the gallery link in the navigational bar at the top of the page. If you just want to randomly browse the new [...]
Sad news out of Nashville. The five-year-old adopted daughter of well known Christian contemporary music artist Steven Curtis Chapman was struck by a Sport utility vehicle driven by her older brother. She died after being rushed to the hospital. It was a tragic accident and our prayers are with their family.
Are you an open-minded Christian who loves movies, entertainment, art, and the like? Do you enjoy writing? Have you thought about starting your own blog, or have a blog but are struggling with getting readers? How would you like to join me in writing here at Engaging Culture? I’d love for this site to grow, [...]
These are topics that I found interesting but either couldn’t find time to or couldn’t merit a full post for, so I have linked to the originators of the story so you can check it out. WARNING, the links below may not be “safe.” They may contain offensive language or images, and in no way [...]
I have updated all of the information on my 2008 Summer Movie Calendar to reflect the date changes and new information that has been released since January.
It’s that time again. Imago Dei will be having its last meeting of the semester this Friday (4/25) at 7:00pm in Norton 101. Timothy Paul Jones will share some of his thoughts on Star Wars from his book “Finding God in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.” It should be lots of fun, my mind is [...]

The man who put a face on such epic figures as Moses (The Ten Commandments), Michaelangelo (The Agony and the Ecstasy), John the Baptist (The Greatest Story Ever Told), the title role of El Cid, and Henry VIII (The Prince and the Pauper) passed away Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills. He was 84.

I am very excited about a new Southern Seminary Student Arts Organization that I have begun called Imago Dei. We get our name from our belief that as people created in the image of a creative God our creativity is not something that should be suppressed by our faith, but just the opposite, should be [...]
The brilliant actor, Paul Scofield, has died, finally losing the long battle with Lukemia, at the age of 86. Scofield gave me a love for the English Reformation with his Academy Award winning role as Thomas More in the 1966 film A Man For All Seasons. Judi Dench, who appeared with Scofield in Kenneth Branagh’s [...]
I thought I would ring in the new year by cleaning the slate. If I have offended or slighted anyone in 2007 I sincerely apologize for my actions. I probably don’t even realize what I have done. I am genuinely dense when it comes to most people’s feelings. Also, I need to work on my [...]
I love how the weather changes. We’ve had hot and dry conditions until last week when we snapped into the 40’s. Now we have a cold front moving through with severe wind sheer. There is a great chance for tornadoes. One storm cell has already past us and according to radar went right over our [...]
Well today was my first day working on campus at 5th & Broadway. That is the Seminary and Boyce College’s post office, campus store, copy center, and campus card center. I have to say, I had fun. I got to do the indoor postal route today, going around to all of the offices in the [...]
