Summer Movies
Summer is the time when major movie studios spend ridiculous amounts of money to convince you that it is better to pay to sit in a dark room for two hours than play in the sun. It’s coming and I’m here to help you find your way through it. The good news is that unlike the last few years, this summer is relatively free of sequels and is more than just a collection of big budget blockbuster movies (although there are still plenty of those to go around). Use this as your guide to the biggest movies blowing up (or fizzling out) in theaters this summer. These are the movies that America will spend billions of dollars on. Bookmark this page, because I will be regularly updating the titles with links to full posts with more detailed information, images, and trailers from those movies.

| Iron Man 2 |
Part of me hates that this is the first movie of the summer, because, with the exception of a few movies, it will all be downhill from here. Predicted score: 92 Actual score: 89 |
| Babies (limited) |
The film is poignant, funny and sometimes disturbing as it explores the first year of the lives of four infants being raised under vastly different circumstances. Predicted score: 78 |
| Mother and Child (limited) |
A film by Rodrigo Garcia (Nine Lives) about the unfolding drama of the intersecting lives of three women who are each affected in some way by adoption. Predicted score: 68 |
May 14
| Robin Hood |
It may be the best most expensive Robin Hood film yet… but it’s still the same old story we’ve seen dozens of times. Predicted score: 63 |
| Letters to Juliet |
Vanessa Redgrave and the gorgeous scenery of Verona will not over come the overly saccharine story and lack of romantic spark. Predicted score: 41 |
May 21
| Shrek Forever After |
These movies always make tons of money. But I believe it is finally time to let this franchise live happily ever after. I doubt it will be funny or original. Predicted score: 52 |
| MacGruber |
It was barely funny as an SNL skit and it will be barely tolerable on the big screen. It’s like Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, and Ladies Man all over again. Predicted score: 61 |

| Sex and the City 2 |
This is a sequel that should have never been made. Even many fans of the show (I was not one) thought that the first movie was weak. But with the girls fighting back the years and the “city” being transformed to Abu Dhabi, this one should have simply been called “Menopause and the Desert.” Predicted score: 48 |
| Prince of Persia: Sands of Time |
I want to like this movie. I want it to be the next in a line of successful adventure movies from Disney like National Treasure and Pirates of the Caribbean, but I’m afraid it will follow the path of other video game adaptations and won’t be as successful as Disney hopes. Predicted score: 79 |
